Are you curious about the vibrant traditions of the world's largest archipelagic country? The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature invites you to a special cultural immersion event: From Sabang to Merauke, Across to Formosa: Encountering Indonesian Culture in Taiwan.
As Taiwan becomes one of the ideal places for Indonesian students to purse their university degrees, we aim to foster deeper cross-cultural understanding and celebrate our diverse campus community. The phrase "Sabang sampai Merauke" defines Indonesia's vast span, from the westernmost city of Sabang to Merauke in the east. This immense distance encapsulates a nation of over 17,000 islands, weaving together hundreds of distinct ethnic groups, languages, and traditions into a single vibrant tapestry. This geography symbolizes an immense cultural variety united by the national motto, "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" (Unity in Diversity).
Join us for an afternoon of discovery where we bridge the distance between the "Country of a Thousand Islands" of Indonesia and the "Beautiful Island" of Formosa; Wisely from Indonesia and Kelvin from Taiwan will lead us on this cultural journey. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet new friends, expand your horizons, and enjoy a sensory journey through Indonesia's music, food, and interesting stories!
