Abstract: In an increasingly interconnected world, the teaching of intercultural communication must evolve to address the complexities of globalization, digital transformation, and shifting linguistic landscapes in education. This presentation explores key intercultural challenges, such as language dominance, identity negotiation in multilingual societies, and the effectiveness of language policies in fostering cross-cultural competence. To contextualize these discussions, the presentation will examine Estonia’s national approach to English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and draw comparative insights for Taiwan as it transitions toward making English a second official language by 2030. By analyzing language policy, educational strategies, and their broader societal implications, this discussion will provide a nuanced perspective on fostering linguistic inclusivity. This lecture aims to foster meaningful dialogue and equip participants with practical strategies for effective engagement in a rapidly globalizing society.
